The role works in concert with Sortation Ops, Customer Care, Sort Center Engineering, Transportation, and Logistics to plan and design both strategic and tactical approaches to the network that support current service operations and will optimize performance conditions with flexibility in mind to allow the company to continue to grow and scale. Provides leadership and direction to supporting staff and associates while promoting and fostering teamwork. Involved in the development of systems and processes that will minimize expenses, while maximizing geographic footprint, operational efficiencies and productivity. A results-driven contributor who can successfully combine strong Supply Chain/Transportation industry experience and extensive training in mathematical modeling and data analytics to solve complex problems in operations as well as expanding our network. You are a dedicated individual who will help develop the network strategy for Pandion and oversee the subsequent implementation of its key components.The position will be remote.
Main Responsibilities
- Optimize service network design, develop creative last mile solution(s), and design dynamic topology structure to expand customer reaching with delivery speed desired sustainably
- Construct Inputs/Output metrics decomposition model to sustainably tune and explain performance differences
- Partner with Analytics and Data Science teams to research and develop dynamic decision algorithm to manage service availability, catchment, and order service routing
- Coach, mentor and develop Network Optimization team of direct reports to include but not limited to managers, analysts, coordinators, and project managers.
- Develop and manage the department budget as well as reporting on qualitative and quantitative results
- Manage the strategic planning processes for the SC Network which include Sort Centers and 3PL facilities.
- Assists and provides critical inputs and perspectives for the strategic direction of the SC Network in order to meet short and long term objectives.
- Collaborate with Customer Care and sales partners to understand and support processes/capacities to satisfy the needs of current and future customer requirements, services, timely deliveries, delivery accuracy, and product integrity.
- Communication and adherence of corporate policies and procedures to the functional areas within the Distribution Network.
- Develop leadership skills of subordinates by determining developmental needs and opportunities.
- Understand the broader Pandion company strategy, translate it into requirements for the network design, and develop short/mid/long-term roadmaps to align with company objectives
- Develop as-is and to-be network models that can identify opportunities for efficiency gains; create mathematical models (e.g., optimization, simulation, forecasting) to improve package flow and associated cycle time and cost metrics
- Assist with the preparation of operating budget and strategic plans, as well as sensitive analyses to quantify opportunities and risks (what-if scenarios)
- Lead targeted design efforts (e.g., around new building launches, facility consolidations, regional footprint changes, etc.) as business conditions, volume and mix forecasts, and performance goals change
- Lead planning efforts around balancing demand/supply and preparing for peak season
- Utilize statistical modeling techniques and database analysis to define and monitor measures that will align performance with business objectives
- Collaborate with the Product team to develop new service offerings and refine existing ones and with the Sales team to develop customer-specific designs to optimally serve our shippers.
Required Skills And Experience
- 10 years’ experience as a manager of multiple direct reports and budgeting experience, including satellite Distribution Center facilities.
- 8 years’ experience in designing and implementing network strategies, building designs, and capability development in partnership with both internal and external providers.
- Strong organization, planning and leadership skills are required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively have persuasive writing and presentation skills. A strong influencer with the ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
- Strong ability to work cooperatively with internal and external groups to achieve objectives
Your Background
As a Director or Network Design and Optimization you will need:
- Master's degree in Supply Chain/Logistics/Industrial Engineering/Operations Research or related field
- Extensive knowledge of ecommerce industry, with particular emphasis on supply chain and operations.
- 3-5 years of experience with demonstrated Mathematical Modeling/Optimization/Network Design or related work and experience with Network Optimization and Simulation tools (such as Gurobi, Excel Solver, ARENA, AnyLogic)
- Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques and programming (such as R, Python) and strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze significant amounts of information with database (such as SQL) and business analytics tools (such as Tableau or PowerBI)
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills including statistical concepts (such as Six Sigma or Lean principles)
- Experience with Postal/zone skipping industry a plus
